Isn’t it fun to have one day a year where we don’t have to make up an excuse to drink green beer and eat corned beef? Everyone is a wee bit Irish today.
This photo we took in Dublin answers an age-old question. Yes, even leprechauns read my blog while they should be working.

It looks like Mr. Leprechaun is about to hurl into his hat. (Not because he’s checking out your blog, mind you, but because of all that green alcohol.)
You never know . . . he could be getting ready to hurl because of my blog.
If this is a live shot, then the leprechaun is looking at himself looking at himself looking…heck, you get the idea!
If so, he is thinking, “I better go on the wagon . . . and a diet.”
Did you ask the Irish what they think of the way Americans celebrate St Patrick’s Day? It’s so overboard, it’s funny. Same thing with Cinquo de Mayo, where suddenly everyone is Mexican for one day! I love how people try to find a reason to justify their drinking when they could just, well, drink. 😉
Nope . . . didn’t think to ask the Irish what they think of our version of St. Patrick’s Day. They probably think, “Oh, those crazy Americans!”
I’m quite fond of Cinquo de Mayo as well. Love those margaritas, chips, and guacamole!

Ireland was delightful. We lucked out and had one day of rain out of the 14 days we were there. All the Irishmen/women were loving it and everyone was outside. You should have seen all the sunburned skin.
We do have great photos . . . I’ll try to work some more into other posts.
I have to admit that we didn’t eat corned beef or drink green beer yesterday. I feel as if I’ve not been true to my roots, but perhaps my ancestors will forgive me. I made Irish Soda Bread instead. Nothing says celebration quite like home-baked carbs with lots of butter + marmalade. At least it does when St. Paddy’s Day falls on a lazy Sunday.
That sounds yummy. One of our favorite things in Ireland was the homemade bread in the morning at the Bed and Breakfast inns where we stayed.

That is what I did right after taking the picture. I did an Irish jig and about toppled the table.
He looks gutted the last person walking by didn’t throw a few coins into his hat. To buy more corned beef, obviously 😉

I actually made corned beef and cabbage today—for the first time ever—and my family actually liked it! So there’s a wee bit o’ luck, too.
I am a big fan of corned beef and cabbage, but this year I made Reuben sandwiches. Yum-o.
I wish I was there! Now they really celebrate!
And they don’t need St Patrick’s Day as an excuse to party. The pubs in Ireland were packed even at 3:00 in the afternoon on a Tuesday!
Maybe he got it mixed up and drank corned beer and ate green beef.

I’m one-quarter Irish, but I’m not a fan of corned beef. We were in DC last night for dinner and then saw the Chieftains in concert at the Kennedy Center. Lots of young folks out for pub crawls—some of them dressed not unlike your friend, there….
I’m one-quarter Irish too! The rest is Swedish. How was the concert? I bet it was a great thing to do on St. Patrick’s Day.
It was great! I still get moments where I think, “I’m in DC doing this amazing thing—how cool is that?” This was one of them. 🙂
And The Lincoln Center is a great venue for music and theater. My uncle was the stage manager for dozens of shows there . . .
Well, Lincoln is in New York. 😉 Kennedy is in DC. But both are great venues!
