In recent posts by writers, we’ve learned that many of us have pulled the car over to jot down an idea for our novel, poem, short story, or whatever. If we didn’t, the idea would go POOF. Some of my brilliant ideas where captured on the back of an envelope, grocery receipt, or gum wrapper because that was the only paper in the car.
Comedian John Branyon does this bit below where he comments that in the pre-cell phone days of texting and driving, we didn’t need to be warned about the danger of typing and driving. Imagine if we writers took our laptops in the car . . .
I promise it will make you laugh.

Don’t tempt me. I’ve slipped into a toy store and brought crayons because it was the only thing they had that wrote.

Well then your writing must have been colorful.

You’re right: it did! Especially that last line 🙂

Too funny! My boys, having never seen a typewriter where the carriage moved so they didn’t quite get that, which made it even funnier!

I’ll never forget when my girls were little and I borrowed my mom’s ’65 red convertible Mustang. They climbed in the super-cool car and said, What’s that?!?!” They were pointing at the knob to roll down the window manually. Geez.

I don’t have an iphone or any of those new toys only because I’ve been too busy to keep up (really!). I like pen and paper because they’re reliable and handy. I guess I’m still old school. Even in bed—can you imagine? Oops, too much information?? Don’t worry, I’m ALONE.
robincoyle said:
You and Shakespeare are in good company pen and paper-wise, not bed-wise.

The Greatest ideas do come at the least opportune moments. I have always been a victim of having the paper but not the pen. “A writer without a pen is just a thought and a blank sheet of paper”. Now that I have notepad on my phone that’s all I use.
I can’t image driving with a Labtop, my next blog would be coming from jail. Maybe they can build a keyboard in the stirring wheel and make everyone happy!!!!

I LOVE the quote. Can I use it if I cite you in a future post?
I would laugh about the keyboard in the steering wheel but we are probably not far from that happening.
AmazinglyBrash said:
yes, you can use it and i was thinking about correct my typo (steering) but i knew you would get the point.
robincoyle said:
Thanks! I’ll link it back to you. Yeah, I got your point. Typos are sneaky.

Oh, that was funny! Sigh. I know why he was doing “that” to his “cell phone.”
robincoyle said:
And his miming putting the paper into the typewriter while driving cracked me up.

I have a voice memo app on my phone for this purpose, but I only record my words at a red light. If I’m driving, I make myself wait until I’ve stopped–even if I risk forgetting what I had in mind. 🙂
Very funny clip!

On the iphone Siri does a close enough job for me to dictate things I want to remember so I can drive.

Why’s he doing *this* to his cell phone??
looool! Hilarious! Thanks for the laugh!

Yeah, I laughed out loud at that. Even after watching it a couple times.
