In one word . . . wow.
Now I’m a Writer
Jeff Goins hosted a contest for his book You are a Writer (So Start ACTING Like One). I found this winning entry, by Dustin M. Smith at Propensity for Curiosity, posted on The View Outside’s blog.
Wow.
I love this. It’s very inspiring. I hope he is successful…are there any follow up videos or dare I say, books? Thank you for directing me here. Jen
I just watched the video again . . . the first time since I posted it in June. Again, I have to say, “wow.” Calling myself a writer is still a toughie for me, but heck, that is what I do! Why is it so hard? Grrrrr.
I haven’t seen anything else from Dustin.
Wow is right! Powerful!
This might sound silly, but it made me tear up!
Powerful message! Thanks Robin, I needed that. So often I’m afraid to say what I really think for fear of the reactions to it. I wonder how often being PC keeps people from writing brilliant pieces of prose…
Isn’t he a smart young man? I need to watch the video again.
OK, just did. I took away the “be brave enough to call yourself a writer” more than the “don’t be afraid to write what might offend or what others might disagree with.” Interesting.
SO PERFECT… Completely inspiring, thanks for sharing. ♥
He is such a smart young man.
Hi,
What a fantastic video, he said all of that so beautifully, very inspirational.
And smart. I’d love to see his writing.
Dusting video is inspirational isn’t it 🙂

*grumble mutter grumble* blooming iPad spell check GRRRR!
Dustin, obviously lol
Xx
HAHAHAHAHA! Best spell check mishap ever! I hope Dusting, er . . . I mean Dustin sees it.
Lol, I hope he DOESN’T!!!!! Lol 😉
Xx
I did an early post on my nasty auto correct mishap. I think it will make you smile. Check it out here:

I have an extremely hard time calling myself a writer…
That was excellent… Thank you!
As a published author, how can that be? You should be shouting it from the mountain top! I think we are a modest lot.
Because I don’t write from my imagination…
I had a story to tell and that story was good enough to get published. I’m not sure it had anything to do with the writing…
It had EVERYTHING to do with the writing. Otherwise, it would have ending up in the trash heap with hundreds of thousands other manuscripts.
Thanks for sharing, Robin!
No, THANK YOU! The video was, as I said, brilliant. No wonder you won the contest.
Wow- fantastic piece – I remember when I finally became brave enough to call myself a writer – thank you Robin for sharing this
I remember when I was brave enough to utter the words too. It somehow felt presumptuous. Why is that do you suppose?
Wonderful. Thanks for sharing!
It made me cry. How about you? Or am I just a big mushy writer?
I didn’t cry, but I did get verklempt. (sp?)
Great word.
Strong words. He is easy to admire in his drive for what he does. It can be a business that is fickle, but I wish him well. As always, thank you.
You are right. Writing is a fickle mistress.
