It is difficult to think in ways that come from those who are totally different from us. Killing innocent children does not make much sense even when the facts come out. It is not defending yourself or an accident, so we are somewhat lost in our minds to figure it out.
Prayers to them and their families,
Scott

Did the guy wake up Friday morning and think, “I know what the answer is to my problems. I’ll wreak havoc on a school and ruin the lives of so many.”?
It does not make sense. I join you in prayer.

I imagine it was a long drawn out thing. From movies and books, I think I have, at least, figured out that it is seldom simple. What makes me very sad is that, no matter what we do, there will always be ways to do sometime similar if someone really wants to do it.

It is like some strange competition to see who can to the worst harm.

The world is mourning with you all. We have sat and cried in front of our TV’s as you have and we are so far away but we feel your pain. So very sad.

I can’t imagine anything worse than this.

you gave us all something to do–you gave us an address that we can use to make a least a little bit of a difference

How many times does this need to happen? This senseless action is mind-boggling.
robincoyle said:
This has to STOP. NOW. Two shootings in one week. What has this world come to?

Shocking and sickening.

I cannot express what I feel as I am in shock. It should be a sick mind that did this gruesome act of cowardice.
robincoyle said:
We are all at a loss for words. And you are right. The shooter was a coward.

Hideous. I’m speechless…

I can’t stop crying. So young. So innocent. I don’t understand, My mind cannot wrap around this. I am so very sorry for all the loss of life. So senseless. God, please spread your loving arms and embrace these families and this nation. We need you.
robincoyle said:
I am sick about it. I don’t understand either. How? Why? There are no answers.
Em said:
Tears in my eyes and was feeling just nauseated as I read it today. Hugging my kids tight.
robincoyle said:
It is sickening. I know no time is good for such a tragedy, but I keep picturing those kids’ Christmas presents under the tree.
Em said:
Actually I’ve been thinking a lot about that too. 😦

I can’t even think straight, let alone speak or write anything. I just don’t know, just don’t know …. all that happens is tears.
robincoyle said:
Words are inadequate to describe the senselessness of this tragedy and the pain the world feels about this.

I woke up, turned on the radio. and that is the news I heard. And it was chilling to hear the matter of fact way a young child described what he had seen. So sorry, America.
robincoyle said:
I’m afraid to turn on the news. I don’t think my heart can bear it.
EllaDee said:
I am so very sad and horrified to read this. So many why’s to ask.
robincoyle said:
Yes, so many whys to ask with the heartbreaking reality of never knowing why.

Me, too. I clicked the ‘like’ button because I agree.

I want to cry, but feel too stunned for tears right now.

it is tragic that so many innocents will be scarred by this forever every child in that town is a victim tonight and those who have survived will need years of support to get through this, from an outsider looking in the answer I am afraid is simple while banning guns will not stop every killing it will make it a damn deal harder for people to get their hands on them but I know the problem would be how do you get back all those guns already out there…the reality is if something drastic isn’t done then this will only become more and more common as it is already becoming I just saw this statistic Jon Williams BBC foreign editor tweets: Truly shocking: in 2009 (latest yr) 31,347 killed by firearms in US. Almost as many as road accidents
robincoyle said:
I can’t believe this has happened again. And last week there was a shooting in Portland in a shopping mall. What can drive someone to create such carnage? Mental illness has to be the answer because it is unspeakable.

Woke up this morning, Sydney to hear of yet another shooting incident in the USA. Tragic. Terrible.. It’s happened before … often. At the same time, a report of a guy in China attacking 22 school children with a knife. People go nuts over something and then do NOT discriminate about the innocent. Both the gun and knife are deadly means of expression. The gun however is statistically and significantly MORE deadly than a knife. For this reason attacks in the USA seem to end in more tragedy. As an outsider who spent a long time living in Massachusetts, it is hard to imagine it and like the other people say.. words are hard to find in a short comment about the impact.
robincoyle said:
What a sad, sad day for America. So senseless. I feel like we have been sucker-punched. I think we will feel the impact of this tragedy for a long time.

Robin, you inspired me to write a little more.. on my own blog.. thanks !! .. http://wp.me/pqZ9q-jO

Beautifully said. I am still at a loss for words, but you said them for me.
paulaacton said:
i really believe that what those children deserve is not tears though I cannot stop mine flowing they deserve us to get angry they deserve every mother to stand up and say enough I did not give birth for anyone to take my childs life and if every mother did it imagine the world we could live in because sons would learn from their mothers aswell as daughters until it no longer needed to be thought about and became the way it is
robincoyle said:
As a mother, I say, “ENOUGH.” I am angry too. How could this happen? It needs to STOP NOW. Let this be the last time we cry over the senseless act of another.

If you would like to mail sympathy cards or letters of support and solidarity to the school, the school address appears to be:
Sandy Hook Elementary School
12 Dickenson Drive
Sandy Hook, CT 06482
Please copy/paste/share widely. Sending a card is something small but at least it’s something we can do. We encourage families to make this a family event tonight.

I just did a blog post about it. It is devastating.

We are just watching it on the news. It is unimaginable, and yet it keeps happening. We had our own massacre in Dunblane. I’m crying for those families.

I am crying too, Tilly. Our nation, nay, the world, is mourning such senselessness.

There is no moral, legal, or logical justification for our lax gun control laws. I don’t oppose gun ownership. But it should require regular licensing, registration, and—when conditions suggest the need—revocation of those rights. We regulate driving and owning a car more than guns. There is something morally and ethically wrong with that fact.
robincoyle said:
I completely agree. Reminds me of how inane it is that you have to have driver’s training but no training is required when you have a child.
omawarisan said:
Agreed. As bad as this is, the public doesn’t really know how many scary armed people are out there
robincoyle said:
And you know of what you speak.
I think sleep will be hard to come by tonight . . . and for many nights to come.
omawarisan said:
How dark a person’s heart must be to justify that.
Bless those kids, their families and the first responders who will be haunted by this.

I can’t wrap my brain around this. Why kill children? Why kill anyone?
