Remember the “Coolest Beer in the Cool Place” Valentine’s Day challenge my husband issued our girls?
The gist was this . . . on Valentine’s Day my husband sent our girls See’s Chocolate Hearts, cold hard cash, and a note that said, “Coolest beer in the coolest place . . . take some of this money and buy an interesting beer. Take a photo of yourself drinking the beer in a cool place and submit your photographs to me. I will judge the competition.”
Well folks, this year YOU get to judge the competition. Given the entries’ creativity and diversity, my husband decided the magnitude of such a decision is best left in your capable hands. He feels the decision is too important to leave to a mere mortal.
In other words, he can’t decide on a winner.
And the entries are:
My husband wants you to notice Nancy Reagan and Jimmy Carter applauding his beer choice. Also, note the Marine Corps in the background protecting his beer.
~~~~~
Amanda played a round (note: not played around) with Tiger Woods at Pebble Beach.
~~~~~
Drinking beer while snowboarding helps Jill get air on the slopes. The X-Games are considering making Beer Boarding an event next year.
~~~~~
Some people buy a six-pack of beer. Others buy it in a keg. Paige doesn’t mess around and goes for the vat of beer. She wants you to know the owner and brewer of Payette Brewing Company took her photo.
~~~~~
Okay, it is up to you my blogging friends. Vote below for the beer you think is the coolest and in the coolest place.
Don’t forget to comment to defend your vote!
Special thanks to Paige Coyle, our resident graphic designer, for the artwork.

Tell Dad he’s a chicken but I like that he doesn’t play favourites 🙂
I voted for the golf course. I actually liked the snowboarding one best but as a mother I feel it is far too dangerous and would never encourage such insane behaviour,
Yes, drinking while snowboarding is probably not a good idea. But my Jill has always been a risk taker.
I’m going with your hubby, because I know Jimmy Carter is lusting in his heart for that beer! HF
Thank goodness my husband had the Marines there to protect his beer from Jimmy.
I went with the Beaver Creek shot, but they were all VERY impressive! I guess talent runs in the family 🙂
That must be it . . . talent runs in this family.
I had to vote for Jill for two reasons. 1. The photo is awesome – she’s definitely a great snowboarder and 2. Odell’s brewery is in Fort Collins and a great craft brewing company (we have many in Fort Collins). Go Colorado!
Seeing as how you are a skier and from Colorado, I knew you would pick that one.
They’re all great photos! I’m in the minority here because snow just leaves me cold. And even the thought of politicians gives me a headache. And I don’t golf. But my husband loves craft beers and visiting breweries, so the winner for me is Paige. 🙂
Paige will be delighted you voted for her photo. i love how you explained your reasoning.
I voted for Jill, her photo is great. And it is literally the coolest beer in the coolest place.
Ha! Didn’t think of that. Vail is the coolest (or coldest) place captured in the photos.

Beaver Creek reminds me of the iconic Juicy Fruit commercial, so it gets my vote.
I don’t remember that commercial. Remind me what it was . . .
It focused on a bunch of teenagers doing crazy stunts on a ski slope. That’s about it.
But it continues to be emulated.
I know you shouldn’t drink and snowboard, but I voted for it anyway.
Ha! I asked Jill if the ski resort prohibits drinking and boarding. They don’t, but I’m with you . . . they should. Except when it comes to Valentine’s Beer Photo Contests.
Payette. Because you either go big, or go home!
I like how you think . . .
Exactly!!
I went for the snowy one – amazing shot! They were all fun and inventive though. What a great contest!
The snowboard photo captures Jill’s love of the sport . . . and beer!
Wonderful idea for a vote, Robin. Tough to make a choice, though. I see I’m impressed with multi-tasking like the majority here. I wouldn’t want a cold beer on a cold day though…
Oh but Tess . . . the beer warms you from the inside!
Yup, loved the snowboarding photo. Anyone who can snowboard and hold a bottle of beer has my vote. Even better would be a shot of her snowboarding and drinking the beer…or would that be considered S.U. I. ? 😉
Most definitely S.U.I. Not sure what the ski patrol would make of that. I’ll hazard that drinking beer while catching air has been done before. Not by Jill, of course.
Saw your comment over at Hippie’s – yep, there’s a WP problem. Comment responses, likes and such aren’t showing up in the notifications tab. There’s a great stir on the forums. I hope it’s fixed, soon.
Thanks for letting me know. I wasn’t sure if it was just me. I didn’t think to head over to the forums to find out. I think this is day three of the problem. I wonder what is taking so long. It is frustrating because I feel like I’ve missed out on some great blogging conversations.
Oh, and don’t you just love Hippie? She cracks me up.
Anyone who can snowboard with a beer in hand deserves my vote! The others may be cool, but the shred factor wins the day. Now if the other two girls were playing golf or scaling a brewing tank with a beer in hand, the cool factor would increase exponentially. Love the setup of the shot in the Reagan library.
The lesson for the kids for next year is “Do an action photo!” Jill will probably be going down a ski jump, Paige swimming in a vat of beer, Amanda doing wheelies in a golf cart, and my husband shaking hands and kissing babies on his bid for president.
All were great contenders, beers and places but I’ve cast my vote for …Ronald Reagan Presidential Library… it looks like the sort of place you’d need a beer 🙂
After last year’s campaign season, I would say yes. A beer is in order.
I still think it’s a brewtastic competition. Clever dad. I cast my vote! I’m Team Snowboard. 🙂
Brewtastic! Excellent new word! The snowboarding photo is a clear winner here. Jill’s photographer did a great job.
Thanks. As for the photo? Yes, that was an amazing action shot.
I like Paige because she knows to get the beer where it really comes from, just like milking a cow.
Yup . . . go straight to the source. And, handy jumbo-size packaging.
Speaking of cows, I haven’t seen a cow post lately. Have you not seen a cow everyday?
These choices were SO tough – all so good! But I finally had to go with Amanda 😀
Thanks for voting, Dianne! Amanda thanks you too.
Great idea! Tough choices, but after careful consideration I came up with a winner.
Though dad tried to wow me with his political clout, I was unimpressed.
Amanda impressed me with her beer and Pebble Beach and got bonus points for playing a round with Tiger.
I just love the name Friek Ale! And…wow..Jill was actually snowboarding while holding on to the bottle and getting photographed. Quite a balancing act! Ka-Ching…Ka-Ching! Her beer is a gold medal winner! 2011 (Great American Beer Festival® – gold medal for Friek). I vote for Jill!
Sorry, Paige…beer in a can…ugh! I liked that you went to the source. If you had actually gotten it directly on tap…with a mug (and not holding a can), I might have picked you!
Understandable. However, Payette is known for their canned craft beer…which is huge in Boise so we can legally take beer to do all the fun things in Boise like rafting and parks. And it was given to me by the head brewer…out of his mini fridge in his office that overlooks the brewery. That to me has the same amount of awesomeness as a fresh draught beer in a chilled glass.
😉 Had to defend myself on that one!
Definitely agree Jill has an awesome photo though!!
Mega bonus points for giving a strong defense. You moved from fourth to second! 😉
I love that you two are having a discussion about this. And Mrs. P., I’m impressed by how you know your Beer Festival Gold Winners! Seems like we ought to invite you over for a beer!
🙂 I’d love it! Aren’t you closer to wine country? Would drinking beer seem like heresy in that case?
I’ll drink the wine, you drink the beer. The wine makers will call it even.
It was a difficult choice because they all did a great job but in the end I had to vote for Paige at the brewery. I thought her idea was very clever. I think you should run a similar competition for your readers and see what photos you get and where they are taken. It could be fun.
That is a great idea! Folks can take a picture of themselves drinking the beverage of their choice in a cool (or unusual) place, email them to me, and we can have a fierce competition! That would be a crack-up. The folks around this blog are so clever.
Paige wants to work in the craft beer business – on the graphic design and marketing side. She reached out to the owner of Payette Brewery to talk to him about the business. He invited her to come over for a beer, tour of the brewery, and a chat about making beer. Hence, he now knows about our family contest! He either thinks our family is crazy, or he might hire her one day!
Very competitive family here! I had to vote for dear old Dad. Jill should totally send that photo into the brewery! Tough choice–
Competitive and fun-loving. They are always up for a challenge and the chance to make each other laugh. Dear old dad appreciates your vote.
Fun indeed
This Southerner doesn’t drink beer…but if I did, I would want it to be a refreshing cold one after a day of snowy fun. The picture from Beaver Creek filled my heart with gladness over memories of snowy Northern winters! What a fun idea for your family! –Alison
We had to laugh . . . Amanda’s beer is called Idiot and Jill’s is called Friek. I’m surprised the other two weren’t Dingbat Beer and Insanity, or some such thing.
Ale with cherries and raspberries and I love the colour of the beer label — had to vote for it–and the action shot was great
It is a great photo. I love the swoosh of snow around her board. You can feel the speed and motion.
I have a soft spot in my heart for Amanda, but that photo of Jill just rocks!! Action, the bottle is in the action, and it’s exciting! One big Ohio vote for Jill. 🙂
Jill says thanks to the great state of Ohio. This is just like the presidential nomination convention. Only less politics and more beer.
It’s a toss up between the Presidential Library and Beaver Creek. I think I’m going to have to go with…
Oh, come on Jenny! Don’t leave us with a cliffhanger!
Payette brewery photo is definitely the coolest!
Gee . . . I wonder why you think so!
Had to go with the Beaver Creek one because the shot is just so cool. 🙂
Jill said the friend who took the photo for her captured a bunch of great shots. We told her she should send the photo to the brewery.
Good idea!
