Today’s tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School as left me feeling legless.
Are you like me and want to help the families of the victims of today’s senseless shooting rampage, but don’t know what to do? I want to give each of them a hug, and while not a religious person, I want to say a prayer on bended knee with them.
Our friend, Paula Action, shared the school address with me. While far short from a comforting hug or shoulder to lean on, sending a card or letter expressing our sorrow, support, and condolences is at least something. The nation mourns alongside the community. Knowing that we do might help them a bit. As Paula suggested, writing a note would be a lovely thing to do with the family tonight. Excellent idea, Paula. Oh, and pass the word to your friends and family.
The school’s address is:
Sandy Hook Elementary School
12 Dickenson Drive
Newtown, CT 06482

Wonderful idea, Robin. Thank you for this.
I hope they are flooded with letters and love from around the world.
Once again, excellent work.
Thanks Hook. It is small, but it is something.
Don’t kid yourself, it means everything.

Now to find the words…
Seriously.
Hi Robin,
Just see your great post, and I wanted to share with you and your audience a website that we have setup for people who want to write to offer their thoughts, support, and sympathy for the Sandy Hook community:
http://for-sandy-hook.fromabirdie.com/
We believe in the healing power of writing (and receiving!) letters, so please feel free to share with friends.
To create a place of reflection (rather than noise and discussion), the letters WILL NOT BE VIEWABLE BY THE PUBLIC UNTIL Dec 30th. On that day, we will deliver them to the Sandy Hook community.
Thanks again.
+ A
Brilliant idea. Brilliant.

The other people who need cards and notes of encouragement would be the police officers and firefighters who will be dealing with this scene for weeks and with the memories for the rest of their lives.
An excellent reminder. Their lives are forever changed.

All my tears are shedding for these innocent little children and thier parents, and to the aduts that gave their lives, those are heros. I feel so helpless at this time, I am so so sorry this has happened. I cannot imagine the pain these parents and familes all feel. They are in my prayers always.
The world appears to be in shock over this tragedy. So sad. So sad.

All very sad. I know someone about an hour from there. She wasn’t directly affected, but has friends of friends who were.
The impact of this event will leave a hole in all of our hearts.
thanks Robin – can I post this too?
Of course!

Wonderful and thoughtful idea, Robin.
It feels good to do something in this helpless situation.

I heard a guy on the radio yesterday say, “Pray for the parents. The kids are okay. They are in God’s hands now.”

Thank you for sharing the address! Excellent idea.
They need to know we care.
Even though it’s so far away from me, it’s been on my mind all day – you have a kind heart, and good practical sense.
Just trying to find a little something to do in this hopeless situation.

I didn’t see the news last night. Ironically, I was at my son’s grade 6 graduation when this happened. I feel sickened and so sad (to tears) that the parents of these darling children will not get to experience what I did last night. This loss is agonizing and senseless. My heart goes out to all that are affected. Jen

I keep thinking about the kids’ Christmas presents under the tree. Sigh.
Funny you should mention this. I picked up a couple of cards today and I’m going around my neighborhood tomorrow to get signatures. This is just heartbreaking.
They need to know we mourn with them. Such a senseless tragedy.
That is a very good idea.
It is a small gesture, but maybe it will help if they know we care.
it is a great place to start. may I have permission to re-blog this?
Of course!
Great idea! Thanks.
It is a small thing, but maybe showing we care will help a little.
you are good people Robin.
I want to give every person in Newtown a hug.
Poor kids. And their families. What a horrible thing, especially so close to Christmas.
I keep picturing those kids’ Christmas presents under the tree.

Please pray for these families and the lost innocents. Thank you.
Thank you Robin! I am a religious person and I have emailed your post to my principal at our Catholic elementary school. I am the school librarian and I will ask her to have our students send a card and pray for these families.
Oh gosh . . . I just realized that the town’s name is NewTOWN, not Newton. Rats.
Excellent idea to have your students send cards.
